Azerbaijan has had an ancient history of architectural and construction traditions. Built centuries ago by our great ancestors, the rare architectural memorials have been preserved to this day to endow every Azerbaijani person with a source of great pride and represent a valuable part of the global heritage.

Currently, the rich construction traditions continue developing to play an exceptional role in the Country’s socio-economic advancement. Heydar Aliyev, the architect and founder of modern Azerbaijan as well as its nationwide leader, played an indispensable role in reviving the national construction industry and ensuring an enlargement of the scope of construction activity, thus boosting the prestige of the construction industry. During the period of Heydar Aliyev’s leadership, the improving housing conditions of the population gave rise to the emergence of a new household culture that in turn resulted from quality urban planning activity. Based on the underlying principles of modernity and national identity, the newly established construction education and specialized educational institutions had to meet the modern-day requirements to raise potent specialists.

The strategic course established by the great leader Heydar Aliyev is, at present, successfully implemented by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the incumbent President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, whose leadership is meeting the new quality requirements of our day and age. We have implemented, and are still implementing, the well-planned systemic urban planning and improvement activities, the construction of modern residential buildings reflecting national traditions of architecture, the establishment of social and administrative complexes, and the large-scale activities implemented to ensure the renewal of infrastructure. Considering the indispensable services rendered by our construction sector specialists, the Head of the State has signed a Decree dated 16 December 2009 to designate April the 10th as a Professional Builders’ Day.

Once again, we would like to cordially congratulate every professional builder of our Country’s construction sector! We wish you great success in the implementation of the new momentous projects that will enhance the economic power of independent Azerbaijan and increase its population’s prosperity. We believe that this 10th Builders’ Day will become a symbol of builders’ unity and pave the way into the future with remarkable labor achievements.
