The Baku General Directorate for Architecture and Urban Planning has been operating since 1969.

Areas of activity include issuance of permits for construction and operation of facilities in the administrative area of ​​Baku, applications review for eligible parameters of future constructions prior to applying for construction permits, compliance of the construction intent to allocate land for construction purposes with relevant urban development documents and feedback on compliance of movable facilities and objects without foundation, small retail facilities and complexes, maintaining the urban planning cadastre and other areas of activity specified in the Directorate's by-laws.
