The 42nd meeting of Intergovernmental Council for Cooperation in Construction of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held under the Chairmanship of the State Committee
At the meeting the results of the “Year of the Architecture and Urban Planning“ were discussed.
The next 42nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Council for Cooperation in Construction of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held on November 25 in a video conference format under the chairmanship of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, which is the member of the Council on behalf of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In his welcoming speech Mr.Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the Committee emphasized the importance of celebrating the year of 2021 as the "Year of Architecture and Urban Planning" in accordance with the joint decision of the CIS member states targeted to expand cooperation between the participating countries. Speaking about the results of the current year, Anar Guliyev noted that despite the pandemic, the measures envisaged in the action plan on the topic of the year have been successfully implemented by member countries. Based on the above plan, he accolated the follow-up of the Committee-run scientific-practical conference named "Achievements, challenges and current trends in urban planning in the CIS" and the "Architecture and Urban Planning Competition among young architects from the CIS countries" as of great interest. At the same time, Anar Guliyev expressed confidence in the 42nd meeting to be very fruitful and to contribute to the further development of relations in the construction sector.
Following the Chairman, Ilkhom Nematov, Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee thanked him for organizing the 42nd meeting at a high level, noting that the work done created favorable conditions for the exchange of views on topical issues. The Deputy Chairman said that the events held during the year allowed to further expand cooperation between the member countries in the field of urban planning and construction and to continue the experience gained.
Later delegates of the Council member countries made presentations and speeches on the topic of the year. The representatives of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture talked about the design work carried out in our country in the field of urban planning and construction. The information provided on the development concept of the Master Plan of the Baku city, which was prepared in accordance with the requirements of the post-industrial period with the participation of local and international experts. The planning and development of the liberated lands from occupation was also presented to meeting participants..
Furthermore, there was provided information on the work carried out by the participating countries within the framework of the "Year of Architecture and Urban Planning", the action plan dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the CIS, extensive discussions were held on the main directions of urban policy, current problems in this area and ways to solve them. At the end, the results of the current year were brought to the attention of representatives of member countries, appropriate decisions were made at the next meeting of the Council and a number of other organizational issues were discussed.
It should be noted that the Intergovernmental Council for Cooperation in Construction of the CIS Member States was established in 1994 to ensure the sustainable development of the construction sector in the CIS countries and to coordinate the activities of relevant agencies to form a coordinated policy in the field of construction. The Republic of Azerbaijan is represented in the Council by the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture. The activities of the Council are mainly aimed at developing cooperation in the field of construction, including engineering research in construction, design, architectural activities, development of urban planning documents, production of construction materials, production of various construction equipment, construction organization, etc. covers such areas. The Council includes 10 CIS member states.
