Interagency discussions on preparation of the Master Plan of Baku city are held in the format of the Strategic Session
According to the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 27.06.2018, work is being continued in accordance with the planned schedule within the second phase of the process organized by the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture.
The next meeting of the Working Group in the format of the 2-day Strategic Session has begun today, organized by the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture to coordinate work on the Master Plan.
The final session of the Strategic Session will be held on November 26-27, with the participation of many ministries, state committees, relevant agencies at the management and expert level, as well as international and local experts and public figures, identified key urban planning approaches will be agreed upon.
The first meeting of the Working Group by the Committee took place in June of this year, improving the effectiveness of the work on the development of the Master Plan, covering the organization of information exchange between government agencies and the integrated approach to large-scale planning for the future development of the city.
The group also held three broad meetings in months of June-October. Besides that, about 70 bilateral meetings were held with various government officials to discuss specific topics. During the meetings, the development of the Master Plan in accordance with the concept of future development of Baku and the detailed discussion of strategic projects were provided and an extensive exchange of views was held.
On the first day of the Strategic Session, international consultants and independent local experts will present their views on urban planning within the four priorities set out in the Baku Development Concept. Discussions will be held in the form of parallel panel sessions on such topics as “Capital Development Areas”, “Affordable Engineering Communication Infrastructure and Sustainable Ecology”, “Public Transport Networks and Their Integration of Urban Population”, and “Modern Urban Economy”. Town planning experts will give their final views on the creation of a multi-centric urban core, the preservation of historical architectural heritage, alternative energy sources, environmental improvement, the formation of high economic clusters for Baku's development, and the integration of mobility.
At the same time, it is planned to discuss the strategic projects that will serve as a driving force in the implementation of the Master Plan of Baku city, as well as sustainable and systematic development of the city in the short and long term. The projects will be evaluated in terms of their strategic importance and investment attractiveness for the Master Plan.
On the second day of the Strategic Session, which will continue on November 27, discussions with independent experts will be followed by a presentation of key urban planning approaches, possible solutions, and selected portfolio of strategic projects, with final proposals and feedback on the issues.
